Texas State University BAAS Degree Program Information

Texas State's Occupational Education BAAS Program offers the students in the aviation program, under the Business and Industry Institute at Austin Community College, an opportunity to submit their course training that they have completed in aviation for noncollegiate credit review at the completion of OCED 4350.  Up to 30 hours of noncollegiate credits may be awarded by Texas State Univeristy through Occupational Education based on the documentation of the aviation program through a portfolio process at Texas State University.  Students seeking the credit must be accepted to Texas State University and have completed the OCED 4350 course successfully before credits may be transcripted.  Questions regarding the process and admission to Occupational Education should be addressed in a meeting with an Occupational Education advisor at the San Marcos or Round Rock Campus.

Flying Club Named, Officers Elected

On the 6/9/2011 meeting, the club was officially kicked off with members selecting the following officers:
Samuel Fullman - acting President
Brian Dierks - Vice President
Colby Knapp - Sec. Treasurer

If you want to bookmark us for now, the hub page for the club will be http://www.tsaviation.com/ctfc/ - check it out. Next meeting will be July 14th (Thursday evening at 6:00PM). Please RSVP so we have a head count.

Update on Flying Club Meeting

Come to the flying club meeting on the 19th of May (Thursday) - just get there sometime between 5:30 and 6:00. This is a change in schedule from the 12th of May listed below. Erik is still springing for barbeque and beer. Please call Roland at 512-396-2212 to give us a head count. Remember topics: possible group purchase of aircraft, scholarships, more and better public visibility and involvement in events to promote a passion for aviation, and of course safety. See you there.

Improvements to the FBO and Grounds

Hey, come check out the new landscaping on the front entry way. Planted species include Dwarf Purple Fountain Grass, Saphire Showers Duranta, and Mexican Flame Vine (hey, pilots log everything). Let's hope these guys take off in the heat we've got. Also, thanks to flight school member Damon Borich for providing the side-by-side refrigerator for the kitchen. Remember: unlabeled food will be eaten if it's good, and thrown out otherwise. Thanks again, Damon.

Making TS Aviation Nice on the Outside

Member Sam Fullman and Justin Stanford made a start on the outside landscaping today by cutting down the two iconic palm trees which were probably around since the founding of the airport. Also the edging along the sidewalk has been cleared out getting ready for mulch and probably a xeriscaping approach to save water. Other options include some vines growing around the front porch. Sam ran a construction company prior to running Compass Point Media as a web/database developer, and this is probably the start of some more projects around the old FBO.

If any of you are interested in assisting, even making sure the plants get watered once they're in the ground, give us a call at (512) 396-2212, or contact Sam at (512) 754-7927.

Time for the Club Again!

In talking with Roland about some issues related to the shop, the subject of a monthly safety and general pilot's meeting came up. I am currently gauging the interest in a monthly meeting once again, to include occasional barbecue and grilling outside the hangar. If you are interested in participating, please email Roland at office at tsaviation.com - we are considering all days of the week but generally Tuesday is the best evening to meet, and of course Saturday would be the best barbecue day.

Something to consider given a cumulative capacity of 16 people in the fleet is a fly-out picnic- I'm thinking Fentress as a short hop as I've done it before and seriously what are the odds of hitting a skydiver anyway? Other ideas would be welcomed.

A New Forum Resource - www.Cessna172Club.com

Today I met Tripp Holmgrain, founder of the Cessna 172 Club forum. This place is neat! I'm waiting for Tripp to reply and tell me how I can get a map of the states I've flown a 172 in like many of the members have. There are several different forums available, pictures, web-cams, and a calendar which doesn't appear to be used much exc. automatically for birthdays. Tripp's user name is Cessna Dude; this appears to be a good community resource for all things Cessna 172.
